In a time & work sum the trap is fractions. If A finishes a job in 12 days, A does121 of it each day; if B takes 6 days, B does61 a day. Adding 121+61 is slow. There is a faster way that kills the fractions completely.
The LCM method — make “total work” the LCM of the times
Instead of calling the job 1, call the total work the LCM of all the given times. Then every rate becomes a whole number, so you just add and divide.
• Step 1. A takes 12 days, B takes 6 days. Total work =LCM(12,6)=12 units.
• Step 2. Rate =timetotal work. So A does 1212=1 unit/day, B does 612=2 units/day.
• Step 3. Working together they do 1+2=3 units/day.
• Step 4. Time together =combined ratetotal work=312=4 days.
Two-worker shortcut: if A takes a days and B takes b days, together they take a+ba×b days (product over sum). Here 12+612×6=1872=4 days.
Fraction of work done in t days =time for full jobt. If A finishes in 12 days, in 3 days A has done 123=41 of it, and 43 is left.
🧱Time & Work LabTotal work = LCM units — no fractions
A finishes in (days)
B finishes in (days)
📦Total work = LCM(12, 15) = 60 units
A's speed (12 days alone)60 ÷ 12 = 5 units/day
B's speed (15 days alone)60 ÷ 15 = 4 units/day
Together, per day5 + 4 = 9 units/day
Together they finish in 60/9 = 6 2/3 days
Call the whole job 60 units (the LCM), not "1".
Every speed becomes a whole number — that is the entire trick.
Time together = total work ÷ combined speed = 60 ÷ 9 = 60/9 = 6 2/3 days.
A does a job in 10 days, B in 15 days. Total work = LCM(10,15) = 30; rates 3 and 2; together3+230= days.

Work-and-time basics: turn each person's time into a work-rate, add the rates to combine workers, and scale a fraction of work up to full time or split wages.
How to solve this type
Convert times into work-rates and ADD the rates, never the days. Fast default: let total work = LCM of the given times, then each rate = total ÷ that person's time. Add the rates and divide total work by the combined rate. For exactly two workers you can also use the shortcut combined time =a+ba×b (product over sum).
